July 10th proclaimed the Nikola Tesla Day

The members of the Croatian Parliament proclaimed July 10th to be the Nikola Tesla Day and the Science, Technology and Innovation Day in Croatia.

The proposal to proclaim July 10th the Nikola Tesla Day in Croatia was submitted by three members of the Parliament, Ms Mirela Holy, Mr Davor Bernardić and Mr Damir Kajin. Their proposal was supported by the Government which added July 10th to be the Science, Technology and Innovation Day in Croatia as well.

Ms Holy, Mr Bernardić and Mr Kajin emphasized that Croatia would be, in this way, presented as the homeland of Nikola Tesla, a world famous scientist and inventor, as well as the country respecting the development of science, technology and innovations, what could have a positive influence on Croatian science and tourism. Nikola Tesla, one of the greatest scientists and inventors in the 19th and 20th century, was born on July 10th, 1856 in the village of Smiljan, Lika and died on January 7th, 1943 in the New Yorker Hotel. He was awarded 15 honorary doctorates all over the world, and in his honour a magnetic induction unit of measurement is known as the tesla.
