On April 4, 2014 the Croatian Parliament voted July 10th to be the Nikola Tesla Day as well as the Science, Technology and Innovation Day in the Republic of Croatia. The proposal to proclaim July 10th to be the Nikola Tesla Day in Croatia was submitted to the Croatian Parliament by the members of the Parliament Ms Mirela Holy, Mr Davor Bernardić and Mr Damir Kajin. They followed the initiative of the Nikola Tesla Association – Genius for the Future that was presented in public two years ago during the celebration of Tesla's birthday,Tesla&Friends. The proposal was supported by Mr Zdravko Ronko, Member of the Parliament.
„We think that it's very important to present Croatia as the country of knowledge and innovations as well as the homeland of Nikola Tesla, one of the greatest inventors the world has ever seen, the genius who was of Serbian origin, who lived and worked all over the world. That was the reason we initiated it and have worked hard on its realization in the past two years“, said President of the Association Ms Dragica Mihajlović who attended the Parliament session together with Mr Don Markušić, Member of the Association. „Our wish was to know much more about Tesla's origin and to determine the date on which we could, in memory of Nikola Tesla, celebrate our ingenious persons, scientists and innovators“.
At the same time, the Nikola Tesla Association – Genius for the Future initiated to proclaim July 10th to be the International Science and Invention Day as well.
