On March 16th 2013. expert commission evaluated projects submitted to the contest "Nikola Tesla – Genius for the future", and the tests from the Quiz - Physics and general knowledge about Nikola Tesla. In the category of physics quizzes and general knowledge of Nikola Tesla, the finalists were selected from elementary school, secondary school, and university students.
Quiz finalists from elementary school are: Hrvoje Abramović (Elementary school Nikola Tesla, Zagreb), Ines Martić (Elementary school dr. Ivan Merz, Zagreb), Neva Čubelić (Elementary school dr. Ivan Merz, Zagreb), and Luka Pranjić (Elementary school kralja Tomislava, Zagreb). Quiz finalists from secondary school: Iva Zelenika (Secondary school Sesvete, Sesvete), Marija Mišić (Secondary school Sesvete, Sesvete), Matija Bunjko (Secondary medical school, Zagreb) and Vinko Vorih (Technical school Ruđer Bošković, Zagreb). Best result in university students category had Josip Medić, from Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, Zagreb.
Nominees in the category of creative and innovative products, usable items or souvenirs inspired by the life and work of Nikola Tesla, or replicas of Tesla's inventions: Ivan Kožar with the projects: "Musical Tesla coil power 700W", and project "Wireless battery charger for small devices", and Branka Čepuran with project "Specific luminous souvenirs and usable items Nikola Tesla".
In the category of Tesla's extended action areas (clean planet, the environment protection, the use of renewable energy sources, education on creativity and innovation) even four projects were nominated, due to the same number of points two projects have achieved. Nominees for this category are: Dubovac Elementary School with project "The exercise regimen in electrical and electronics in everyday life", Vigoran utility trade with project "Green Energy", Tino Herljević with project "Laser data transfer", and Sveta Klara Elementary School with a project "Nikola Tesla is our teacher".
Call for entries for the Award "Nikola Tesla" was opened in January this year, and the Quiz - Physics and general knowledge about Nikola Tesla for elementary and secondary school students was held on Tuesday, 12th March, at the Faculty of Textile Technology in Zagreb. Quiz competition had more than 90 students from around the country, and apposite opening ceremony was held shortly before the quiz competition.
At the Faculty of Textile Technology students were addressed by prof. dr. Tanja Pušić, Deputy Dean of the Faculty, mr.sc. Tatjana Holjevac, Vice president of the Zagreb City Assembly, Mrs. Andrea Doko Jelušić, director of the American Chamber of Commerce, and Mrs. Silvana Svilar, front of Croatian Association of Innovators. Quiz opening was attended by representatives of the City of Zagreb, City of Gračac, and many scientists and innovators.
Association member, prof. dr. Mladen Martinis presented the initiative of establishment of the Institute of Nikola Tesla in Zagreb, in cooperation with scientists and innovators from Belgrade and Brazil, while Mrs. Dragica Mihajlović, president of the Association, invited the Croatian parliament and urged those present to support the initiative of the proclamation the 10th of July as "Day of Nikola Tesla" in Croatia, before declaring 10th of July "International Day of invention" in the UN. This initiative to the United Nations Association has also been addressed by Association Nikola Tesla - Genius for the future, and was supported by the UN Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-moon, Croatian President Mr. Ivo Josipović, and the representative of the UN, Mrs. Louisa Vinton.
"Nikola Tesla - Genius for the future" winners will be awarded on 10th of July 2013., at a special birthday celebration of Nikola Tesla - Tesla & friends evening, that will be traditionally held at the Esplanada hotel in Zagreb.
