The manifestation „Tesla&friends“ held in honor of the 163rd birthday anniversary of Nikola Tesla

ZAGREB, 10th of July 2019. – Hotel Esplanade in Zagreb was the host of the yearly gala and award ceremony „Nikola Tesla – Genius for the Future“ which marked Tesla`s 163rd birthday anniversary and the Day of Nikola Tesla- Day of Science, Technology and Innovation in the Republic of Croatia. The gathered guests, prominent figures from the scientific and social community of Croatia and foreign delegates were greeted by the representative of the Speaker of Parliament, Vesna Bedeković, state secretary of the Ministry of Science and Education, dr.sc. Tome Antičić, Ivica Lovrić, the representative of the Mayor of Zagreb, the head of Ruđer Bošković Institute, dr. sc. David Matthew Smith, the Vice-chancellor for Innovations, Transfer of Technology and Communication of the University of Zagreb prof. dr. sc. Miljenko Šimpraga, executive director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Croatia, mr. sc. Andrea Doko Jelušić, the president of the Union of Croatian Innovators, Ivan Bračić and the president of the Nikola Tesla- Genius for the Future Association, Dragica Mihajlović.
 
The yearly award ceremony „Nikola Tesla – Genius for the Future“ was held for the 10th year in a row in three different categories. In the first category, the Quiz in Physics and facts concerning the life of Nikola Tesla, the winner was Anton Kontić, student of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb. The second category Designing a creative and innovative product or souvenir representing the life and work of Nikola Tesla was won by the „Bionic Hand“ innovation of Davor Širinić, student of  the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb. In the third category, „Recro Bike Servis“ project secured the win for the company called Recro Topusko.
 
The program included two short panel discussions on the subject of “Putovima Nikole Tesle- Tesla od Smiljana do New Yorka”. The participants who spoke about Tesla`s legacy in the countries he lived and worked in, as well as examples of successful cultural and scientific projects which were inspired by Tesla were the head of Klaster puteva kulture Manuela Graf, communication expert and author of the book „Hrvatski velikani“ izv. prof. dr. sc. Božo Skoko, Deputy Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Croatia Slavomir Goga and executive director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Croatia, mr. sc. Andrea Doko Jelušić. The second panel discussion, which focused on the importance of promoting Nikola Tesla and his legacy, was led by students of the 1st Technical School Nikola Tesla, Ivan Pražetina and Tin Mladina, student of the Elementary School of King Tomislav in Zagreb, Ivan Josip Kardum and Ervin Kukec, student of FERIT in Osijek.
 
“Putovima Nikole Tesle- Tesla od Smiljana do New Yorka” was also the theme of this year’s international conference „Tesla in Zagreb“ which was held on the 11th of July in the Croatian Chamber of Economy- Chamber of Zagreb. The guests were greeted by the president of the Croatian Chamber of Economy- Chamber of Zagreb dr. sc. Zlatan Fröhlich, izv. prof. dr. sc. Božo Skoko, the director of the Office for Cooperation with NGOs, Helena Beus, researcher and lecturer (assistant professor) at the Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, Croatia, Interdisciplinary Study Programme of Culture and Tourism dr. sc. Nataša Urošević and the president of the Nikola Tesla- Genius fot the Future Association, Dragica Mihajlović. The speakers of the conference were Markita Franulić, the director of the Technical Museum Nikola Tesla, Snježana Štranjgar, headmistress of the Karlovac Gymnasium, mr. sc. Slavomir Goga who is Deputy Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Croatia, the Head of the Innovational Center Nikola Tesla, prof. dr. sc. Nedjeljko Perić, the president of the Board of Directors of the international organization Klaster puteva kulture Manuela Graf, executive director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Croatia, mr. sc. Andrea Doko Jelušić and the author and producer of educational multimedia projects inspired by Nikola Tesla, Helena Bulaja Madunić.
 
The three-day-long manifestation started on the 9th of July in the Technical Museum of Nikola Tesla in Zagreb, with a demonstration of Tesla`s experiments, a concert by the students of the Music Academy in Zagreb, the concert „Čarobni Broadway“ by actors and singers from the theater called Kazalište Komedija which was held in King Tomislav Square and the projection on Nikola Tesla`s face on the fountains near the National and University Library in Zagreb. On the 10th of July, the representatives of the Nikola Tesla- Genius for the Future, the Ruđer Bošković Institute and the City of Zagreb traditionally payed their respects and delivered flowers at the base of the Nikola Tesla statue in Zagreb.
 
The manifestation „Tesla&friends“ was held under the patronage of the President of Croatia,  Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, the Head of Croatian Parliament Gordan Jandroković, The Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia, Embassy of the Czech Republic in Croatia, the Zagreb Tourist Board,  the Rochester Institute of Technology Croatia, the Croatian Chamber of Economy- Chamber of Zagreb, the Croatian Commission for UNESCO and the City of Zagreb which is both a sponsor and a partner of the manifestation.
